Travel begins with people, not with the vehicles they own. Some set out on foot, others by bicycle, motorcycle, car, campervan or motorhome. The equipment may differ, but curiosity, new experiences and the wish to discover places connect them.

What is a Campertour?

At CamperTouren, we use Campertour to describe a journey or part of a journey centred on independent travel, experiencing different places and a temporary mobile way of life. It may last a few days or several months. The route may be planned in advance or change along the way.

This is our own editorial definition, not a universally accepted dictionary definition. The words camper and tour have established meanings, while our broader understanding of a Campertour deliberately includes different ways of travelling.

Freedom is not a vehicle category

A camper is first and foremost a person. A motor vehicle is not a requirement, and neither income nor physical ability determines the value of a journey. What matters is the experience of being on the road, within each traveller's possibilities and the rules that apply along the way.

Experience, discover, document

Routes, places, observations and practical experiences can become valuable records. CamperTouren brings together travel information, useful documents and tools for recording journeys. Some memories remain private; selected information can be shared with others.

A personal library for life on the road

CamperTouren began as a way to keep useful things within reach and to find them again, even years later. As we grow older, remembering every useful website, document or tool does not get easier. Our Apps, Links and Documents bring these practical resources together in one place. What helps us on the road may help other travellers too.

Places, observations and experiences

CamperTouren A–Z is where we collect descriptions, travel experiences and documented places. Our initial focus is Morocco, especially the Anti-Atlas. We want to preserve useful details about the places we visit and the things we discover, while keeping private or sensitive locations private.

From recorded routes to complete tours

The CamperTouren Route-App records planned routes, the POI-App documents places and observations, and the BackTrack-App records the way back. Our longer-term aim is to import the collected data from an SD card, combine it into tours, and organise it for later reference. Selected information may eventually be published; the underlying personal records remain under our control.

CamperTouren is about more than travelling: it is about preserving what mattered along the way and finding it again when we need it.
